DURAHUB EXTREME INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
The success of the Durahub bearing protector depends on the quality of your parts and components used; and provided the correct procedures are followed.
Along with the Durahub Extreme Pack, you'll also need the following items:
- 2 x high quality oil seals
- Loctite® 515 flange sealant
- AA-80 Emery tape
- Nylon hammer
- Block of wood
- High quality marine grease
- Clean rags
- Solvent or degreaser
- 250ml(8.5 fl oz) Durahub Bearing Oil — for Oil installation option and Combined Grease & Oil installation option only

- 1
- Ensure the sizes of the axle and the rear seal are correctly matched. Ensure that the correct oil seal size is used. It must have a metal casing and a spring garter.
- 2
- Disassemble hub and wash ALL parts thoroughly (including the hub) with degreaser ensuring ALL traces of grease are removed.
- 3
- Ensure that ALL parts are in good working order. If any parts have signs of rust, damage or corrosion, replace the affected parts before continuing the installation process.
- 4
- Inspect the finish quality on the shaft. Ensure that it is smooth by running your fingernail along the shaft to ensure there are no machining grooves (Pic A). If there are machining grooves, please proceed to step 5. If the finish quality on the axle is smooth, please proceed to step 6.
- 5
- Take AA-80 Emery Tape and sand the axle where the rear seal of the hub will sit until smooth (Pic B). Repeat on the other axle.
- Continue with your choice of installation options:
GREASE
- 6
- Pack inner bearing in high quality marine grease. Apply a small bead of Loctite® 515 flange sealant around the outside circumference of the seal casing. Install the grease packed rear bearing, followed by the correct seal into the rear of the hub using a small block of wood and a nylon hammer. Wipe any excess sealant. Repeat on the other hub.
- 7
- Paint the surface of the shaft with grease where the rubber of the rear seal will sit to ensure a lubricated sealing surface. This will reduce the chance of rust on the axle moving to the rear seal area.
- 8
- Pack outer bearing with high quality marine grease. Install the hub on to the shaft (Pic C) followed by the outer bearing (Pic D), washer, nut and split pin. Apply a small bead of Loctite® around the smaller circumference of the Durahub (Pic E) and fit to the hub (Pic F) using a block of wood and a nylon hammer. Wipe off excess sealant. Repeat on the other side. Durahub Extreme fitted and ready to use (Pic I).
OIL
- 6
- Apply a small bead of Loctite® 515 flange sealant around the outside circumference of the seal casing. Install the rear bearing, followed by the correct seal into the rear of the hub using a small block of wood and a nylon hammer. Wipe any excess sealant. Repeat on the other hub.

Repeat on the other side.
- 9
- Remove filler plug (Pic G) and HALF fill the hub with Durahub Bearing Oil (Pic H). Allow the oil to settle and repeat until the oil levels settles halfway up the lens. Replace filler plug and nylon washer and tighten to firm. Repeat on the other side. Durahub Extreme fitted and ready to use (Pic I).
